CBP grapples with a critical scenario, encountering over 10,000 migrants daily

Smugglers have persistently cut through the US border wall near Lukeville, Arizona, fashioning a maze-like pattern with 41 breaches along one 100-foot stretch.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) grapples with a critical scenario, encountering over 10,000 migrants daily.

The surge, orchestrated by smugglers, brings individuals from China, India, Turkey, Senegal, Guinea, Mexico and Colombia. It also stretches the capacities of cities already dealing with an influx of newcomers.

CBP Commissioner Troy Miller highlights unprecedented numbers, prompting border closures reminiscent of post-9/11 security measures, while several officials emphasize the urgent need for nearly $14 billion in funding to address capacity issues, expedite deportations, and implement stricter enforcement measures.

Negotiations in Washington to tighten enforcement face a standstill amid a record surge in illegal crossings.
