Utah Governor Spencer Cox said he believes that in the last five years, social media played a “direct role” in every assassination or assassination attempt.

Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, Cox said that Tyler Robinson, 22, the alleged killer of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk, had fallen into “dark places of the internet” and likened the addictive pull of social media to fentanyl, calling its algorithms “evil.”

Robinson is held without bail in Utah County Jail and faces charges of aggravated murder, firearm discharge, and obstruction of justice. He is set to appear in court on Tuesday.

Gov. Cox confirmed Robinson has refused to cooperate with authorities. He noted that while the suspect came from a conservative background, “leftist ideology” was tied to the attack.

Kirk, a Trump ally and cofounder of Turning Point USA, is being honored nationwide. His public memorial will take place on September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Vice President JD Vance announced that he will be hosting the Charlie Kirk Show today at 12:00 p.m. ET on Rumble.
