Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency as the strengthening Tropical Storm Ian is headed for the state this week.

President Joe Biden declared a federal state of emergency for multiple Florida counties on Saturday. The storm is expected to intensify into a hurricane Monday and could turn into a Category 4 storm. The current sustained wind speed of the storm is 70 miles per hour. A storm is classified as a hurricane when the sustained wind reaches 74mph.

Tropical Storm Ian could bring heavy rainfalls to Florida and raise water levels by as much as 9 to 14 feet above normal tide levels along the coast of western Cuba, per the National Hurricane Center.
