King Charles III has officially removed Prince Andrew’s royal titles, Buckingham Palace announced yesterday.
The former Duke of York will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and is required to leave the Royal Lodge, his longtime residence in Windsor. He will move to privately funded accommodation on the Sandringham estate. No further palace details were shared.
The decision follows years of controversy over Andrew’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and sexual abuse allegations by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who died by suicide earlier this year.
Despite denying all claims, Andrew’s reputation caused significant embarrassment to the monarchy.
Buckingham Palace said the decision was necessary despite Andrew’s denials, adding that Their Majesties’ sympathies remain with all victims of abuse.
Andrew stated he supports the King’s decision. His daughters, Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 37, will retain their royal titles.
