Tornadoes triggered by record-high temperatures claimed two lives and destroyed numerous homes and properties Wednesday in Alabama.

High winds and flooding contributed to the wreckage witnessed in several communities in Alabama and Mississippi as more than 50,000 people were left without power.

Montgomery county sheriff Derrick Cunningham said rescue teams are searching door to door to make sure every civilian is safe.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued 73 tornado and 120 severe thunderstorm warnings between Tuesday afternoon and early Wednesday. High heat in Texas and Louisiana contributed to the intense storms as they moved toward Alabama and Mississippi.
