Federal investigators have issued a preliminary report on the cargo plane crash in Kentucky that killed 14 people earlier this month, stating that the mount designed to secure one of the aircraft’s engines showed signs of “fatigue cracks” and “overstress failure.”

The aircraft, fully fueled for a flight to Hawaii, went down seconds after takeoff. According to a video, the engine was on fire and separated from the plane before impact.

The NTSB said the aircraft was not yet due for the detailed inspection. The engine mount was last inspected in 2021.

Investigators have not attributed the crash directly to the fatigue cracks, the Wall Street Journal said.
