Amid ongoing ceasefire talks in Egypt, the Israeli military announced the withdrawal of its ground forces from Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Sunday. The move, confirmed by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, came at the six-month mark of the intense conflict.

He said the troops completed their mission in the area and are returning for rest and preparation for a “mission in the Rafah area.”

The decision follows mounting global pressure, especially from the US, after seven aid workers were killed in an airstrike, urging action on civilian casualties and aid access.

Last week, President Joe Biden warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the situation in Gaza is “unacceptable.”
