European leaders have shown little urgency to support President Donald Trump’s call

Tensions rose after President Donald Trump urged NATO allies to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route disrupted by the Iran conflict.

However, European leaders have shown little urgency to support Trump’s call.

Germany’s defense chief, Boris Pistorius, said the war was not theirs, reflecting a broader reluctance across Europe. Leaders in Spain and Italy also rejected direct involvement, calling instead for diplomacy and an end to the war.

The closure of the strait has already driven oil prices higher and raised fears of a global economic shock. While Britain’s Keir Starmer backed restoring navigation, he ruled out joining a wider conflict.

Countries like Japan and Australia have also declined to send support, highlighting growing divisions between Washington and its allies.
