Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has firmly rejected Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s call for fresh elections in Israel, deeming it “totally inappropriate” and detrimental to the nation’s battle against Hamas.

Netanyahu further went on to say that Israel is “not a banana republic,” and it’s for Israel’s public to decide if they want to hold new elections.

Last week, Schumer criticized Netanyahu, accusing him of prioritizing political survival over Israel’s best interests.

The exchange marks the latest in a series of verbal clashes between Washington’s senior figures and Israel’s prime minister.

Amidst escalating humanitarian concerns, the US initiated food and water drops and facilitated a maritime aid shipment to Gaza.

Previously, President Joe Biden issued stern warnings to Israel over civilian casualties in Gaza.
