President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping may meet in South Korea in October

After months of trade tensions between the US and China, President Donald Trump said he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the APEC summit in South Korea next month. The two leaders also had a “very productive” phone call on Friday.

He said their conversation touched on trade, fentanyl, the war in Ukraine, and the TikTok deal.

If the leaders meet, it will be their first in-person interaction since Trump’s return to office. He also added that he plans to visit China early next year.

The call comes as both superpowers clash over trade restrictions affecting semiconductors and rare earths. Recent tensions included Trump criticizing Xi for hosting a military parade and accusing China of conspiring against the US.
