Trump says he halted major attack on Iran

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he called off military strikes on Iran that he had previously said were “the biggest attack since World War II.”

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said the decision followed requests from US allies in the Middle East, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

He announced on Truth Social that “perimeters of a deal” had been reached, including an immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.

The shipping blockade in the strait has severely affected the rest of the world, as 20% of global oil supplies pass through it. Brent crude gained over 1%, costing $90.12 per barrel.

Trump’s decision follows weeks of escalating conflict with Iran after a temporary June 17 ceasefire collapsed.

Meanwhile, US embassies in Iraq, Jordan, and the UAE have warned citizens to consider leaving or prepare for flight cancellations.
