The United States has allowed a Russian oil tanker to reach Cuba despite its broader efforts to restrict fuel supplies to the island.

President Donald Trump said Washington would not block the shipment, signaling a temporary softening of its enforcement approach.

The tanker, sent by Russia, is carrying 650,000 barrels of crude oil, which could provide short-term relief to Cuba’s struggling energy sector.

The country has been facing severe fuel shortages, triggering widespread blackouts and disruptions to essential services.

The US has imposed strict measures targeting the Maduro-aligned nation’s energy imports, aiming to pressure its government economically.

However, officials appear cautious about escalating tensions with Russia, especially amid other global conflicts.

Analysts say allowing the tanker through may reflect strategic limits, as Washington balances geopolitical risks while maintaining pressure on Havana.
