Iran confirmed it is holding discussions with Oman on ways to restore commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz
President Donald Trump and Iran publicly disagreed on Monday over whether diplomatic talks are taking place as tensions over the Strait of Hormuz continue.
Trump said he delayed what he described as a massive military strike after allies urged him to allow more time for negotiations.
However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei denied that any talks with the United States were underway or planned. He said Iran was holding discussions with Oman on ways to restore commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Reports suggest both sides have made progress on a temporary shipping arrangement.
Trump later told reporters that Iran was facing what he called its “last chance” to strike a deal.
Hopes for an agreement pushed global oil prices lower on Monday, although uncertainty remains as regional mediators continue efforts to secure guarantees from all parties before any deal can move forward.
