Australian officials say that the knife-wielding attacker who rampaged through Bondi Junction’s Westfield shopping center, killing six people and injuring 12 others—including a 9-month-old baby—on Saturday may have targeted women.

The sole male victim was Faraz Tahir, a security guard and a recent refugee from Pakistan.

The killer was shot dead by a female officer.

The 40-year-old attacker, Joel Cauchi, had long-standing mental health issues and frustrations with women, revealed his father.

Police confirmed the gender-based nature of the attack and ruled out ideological motives. The New South Wales government announced an independent investigation into the incident.
