The Adani Group’s Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat, India|Adani Green Energy

An energy venture in India plans to build the world’s largest clean energy park, costing around $20 billion, covering more than 200 square miles (larger than Paris), and visible from space.

Led by Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), the massive project in Gujarat, India, is set for completion in five years. Once finished, it can reportedly generate enough clean electricity to power 16 million Indian homes.

India, the most populous country, faces a rapid increase in energy demand. It aims to transition to renewable sources and reduce reliance on coal.

AGEL is a subsidiary of the Adani Group, which plans to invest $100 billion in clean energy in the country over the next decade.

However
Critics argue that the Adani Group’s substantial investments in fossil fuels, including coal mines in India and Australia, undermine its green initiatives.

Adani defends these investments, citing India’s need to balance economic growth and energy security with environmental concerns.

A report by the US short-seller Hindenburg Research accused Adani chairman Gautam Adani of fraud, which caused a significant stock market setback last year.
