A white gunman shot and killed three Black people at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday (just two days before the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech) in a racist crime, per the authorities.

“This shooting was racially motivated, and he hated Black people,” Sheriff T.K. Waters said at a news conference.

The 21-year-old shooter wore a tactical vest and carried an AR-style rifle and Glock handgun that were marked with swastikas. He had written manifestos discovered on him detailing his hatred toward Black people.
