President Joe Biden once again called for stricter gun control measures and asked Congress to ban assault weapons during his speech Wednesday, marking one year of the Uvalde school shooting.

The mass shooting killed 19 students and two teachers.

As a step forward, Texas lawmakers are preparing to enact measures aimed at enhancing school safety.

The proposed measures include encouraging staff to carry weapons on campus, conducting school safety inspections and requiring instructors to complete mental health training.

The United States had seen 146 mass shootings in 2023 till mid-April.
