Secret Service officers shot a man carrying a gun near the White House on Monday after opening fire near the Washington Monument.
The suspect fired at officers before law enforcement returned fire and wounded him. Authorities briefly locked down the White House complex while responding to the incident. A bystander suffered a minor graze wound, and no officers were injured.
Officials identified the suspect as a 45-year-old man with ties to Maryland and Texas. He remains in stable condition.

The Washington Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident.
