Dr. Casey Means left her surgical residency in 2018

Dr. Casey Means, a key strategist behind Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Make America Healthy Again agenda, called for addressing the root causes of chronic disease at her surgeon general confirmation hearing.

Lawmakers from both parties repeatedly questioned Means about vaccines; she responded that such decisions should be made between patients and their doctors. The Stanford-trained physician left her surgical residency in 2018, saying the healthcare system was fundamentally flawed. She later launched an alternative medicine practice, co-founded a health-tracking app, and authored a bestselling book.

Two former surgeons general are among those challenging her credentials, pointing to her lapsed medical license in 2024 and the significant income she reportedly earned promoting health and wellness products, sometimes without disclosing financial ties.
