The Supreme Court on Tuesday lifted a freeze on President Donald Trump’s executive order to cut federal jobs, paving the way for large-scale layoffs.
Trump issued the order in February to “eliminate waste and bloat,” instructing agencies to plan staffing cuts.
A San Francisco judge blocked it in May, calling it unconstitutional. But the high court sided with President Trump, stating the order was likely lawful, though it didn’t assess specific layoff plans.

Labor unions argued that the president overstepped his power and that mass layoffs could disrupt critical government functions. The White House called the ruling a major win for executive authority.
