Yeshiva University (YU) in New York City must recognize an LGBTQ club under the city’s anti-discriminatory law as the Supreme Court has refused the request to intervene in the matter.
The recognition would provide the LGBTQ Pride Alliance Club with funding.
The Jewish school has been pursuing an appeal in a lower court and the decision could still be reversed or sent back to the Supreme Court. “The application is denied because it appears that applicants have at least two further avenues for expedited or interim state court relief,” the decision read.
In June, a New York state judge ruled the school must recognize the group. The university is appealing this decision in the state court system.
