Paramount CEO David Ellison suggested that the streaming services Paramount+ and HBO Max could be bundled up as an offering instead of merging|Paramount+; HBO Max|Facebook
CEO David Ellison announced yesterday that the new media giant formed through Paramount’s acquisition of WBD will be named Skydance.
The decision aims to preserve the distinct brand identities of the iconic studios behind major franchises like Mission: Impossible and Harry Potter, as well as TV networks including CBS and CNN.
Paramount and Warner Bros. will remain distinct sub-brands within the new company.
Ellison indicated that Paramount+ and HBO Max could be bundled together rather than combined into a single service.
Skydance was Ellison’s first media company before it merged with Paramount Global under a $8 billion deal in 2025.
According to a regulatory filing, the media giant will formally change its legal name to Skydance Corporation on October 6. It is expected to begin trading under the ticker symbol SKYD.
The $111 billion merger is expected to close Tuesday, following a judge’s approval of a settlement resolving an antitrust suit brought by a group of states.
