President Donald Trump said he barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico because he objected to their reporting|The White House
CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox News, and CNN agreed Monday to pause their shared TV press pool after the White House blocked CNN, MS NOW and Politico from covering Trump’s trip to New York.
The rotating pool normally allows one network to provide footage and coverage that other broadcasters can use when limited space prevents everyone from attending.
CNN, MS NOW and Politico have sued the Trump administration, arguing that the ban violates First Amendment press protections and Fifth Amendment due process rights. They asked the judge to act quickly and restore their access.
The standoff also disrupted live coverage. Trump became difficult to hear during a Monday press conference after the TV pool suspended its coverage, leaving White House video without usable audio. Several networks did not air the event, while the administration streamed it online.
The print and photo press pools continued operating.
In his defense, Trump said he barred the three organizations because he objected to their reporting. Vice President JD Vance supported the move, saying the administration was denying special access rather than banning the outlets.
