Trump blocks CNN, MS NOW, Politico from White House access

President Donald Trump has escalated his fight with the news media. He said on social media that he is barring the three media outlets from the White House over their coverage.

Trump accused the two cable networks and the online news source of repeatedly publishing what he described as “fake news” and suggested that additional organizations could face similar restrictions. He did not explain when or how the proposed ban would take effect.

The announcement immediately raised questions about press freedom and government access. Reporters from the three organizations were still working from the White House later Friday, suggesting that no immediate changes had been enforced.

CNN rejected Trump’s accusations and said its journalists have a constitutional right to report without government interference. Politico also said it would continue covering the administration and defend its First Amendment protections.

The dispute comes as Trump’s administration faces several ongoing clashes with media organizations over access and coverage.

Back in February 2025, the president shut Associated Press reporters out of the Oval Office, Air Force One, and press pool events over the outlet’s refusal to use his preferred name for the Gulf of Mexico. The AP’s lawsuit challenging that ban is still pending.

A 1977 federal appeals court ruling said officials cannot deny credentialed journalists access to White House facilities because of their reporting content. Any attempt to enforce the proposed restrictions could therefore face a legal challenge.
