ABC announced Monday it will reinstate Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show after suspending him over remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

The network said it held “thoughtful conversations” with Kimmel before deciding to bring the show back on Tuesday.

Kimmel had faced backlash for suggesting “MAGA land” was exploiting Kirk’s death, comments that led affiliate owners, Nexstar and Sinclair, to pull the program from their stations. Sinclair confirmed it won’t air Tuesday’s episode, pending further talks with ABC.

Reaction has been divided
Some comedians defended Kimmel, while Kirk’s Turning Point USA organization called ABC’s decision a mistake.

Stephen Colbert cheered his colleague’s return, while President Donald Trump criticized him and renewed attacks on late-night hosts.

The controversy has spotlighted broader battles over free speech, media pressure, and shifting late-night television.

Meanwhile, Conservative leaders are criticizing the Trump administration’s push against political speech after Charlie Kirk’s death.
