US pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly reported strong second-quarter earnings yesterday, sending its stock up 5.8%. The company posted a net income of $7.1 billion, up from $5.66 billion a year earlier.
Revenue climbed 48% to $22.97 billion, beating Wall Street estimates of $20.69 billion. The growth was driven by a 60% increase in sales volume, although a 13% decline in realized prices partially offset the gains.
Weight-loss treatments lead the charge
Sales of Eli Lilly's weight-loss and diabetes treatment Mounjaro climbed 91% to $9.94 billion, while Zepbound generated $4.93 billion in revenue, up 46% from a year ago.
Separately, CVS Health announced a partnership with Eli Lilly to provide transparent GLP-1 pricing via its app.
Looking ahead, Eli Lilly raised its revenue expectation to $85 billion–$87 billion from $82 billion–$85 billion.
