Two former FBI officials, Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides, surrendered Friday after the Justice Department accused them of lying to Congress about the bureau’s investigations into Hunter Biden.

Hunter, son of former president Joe Biden, pleaded guilty to federal tax charges and was convicted of gun crimes in 2024. Biden later pardoned him.

Prosecutors accuse the former intelligence specialists of making false statements to the House Judiciary Committee in 2023.

Floris reportedly told the committee she had not participated in discussions about Hunter.

Benavides allegedly said he learned about the controversy surrounding Hunter’s laptop through Wikipedia. Prosecutors claim both officials concealed their actual involvement.

Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the charges while FBI Director Kash Patel said documentary evidence and witness accounts contradicted their testimony.

Both officials appeared in federal court in Washington, DC, and will remain free while awaiting trial. A judge scheduled their next hearing for Tuesday.

Floris’ lawyers denied the allegations, calling the charges politically motivated and questioning their timing.

The case comes less than two weeks before the midterm elections. The charges were filed through a criminal complaint.
