A federal investigation involving Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar intensified Monday after Homeland Security agents searched her Washington home.

The move triggered strong reactions from Democrats ahead of the November midterm election.

Authorities have not disclosed the investigation’s exact focus. The Justice Department confirmed that agents carried out a court-approved search warrant as part of an ongoing federal criminal case. Officials reportedly removed boxes marked as seized evidence.

Omar accused the Trump administration of targeting political opponents and using federal law enforcement for political purposes. She has repeatedly denied allegations of immigration fraud, which Republican officials have raised in recent months.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump denied involvement in the search, saying the DOJ handled the investigation. However, senior Democrats criticized its timing, noting that the department traditionally avoids major investigative actions involving candidates shortly before elections.

Omar, first elected in 2018, is seeking reelection in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District.
