Federal prosecutors are preparing to ask a grand jury to indict former FBI Director James Comey in the coming days.

The potential charges remain unclear, though media reports suggest investigators have considered whether Comey lied to Congress in 2020 about a connection between the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and the Trump campaign.

If pursued, prosecutors could present the case to a grand jury, which only needs a majority vote to indict.

Such a move would escalate tensions between Comey, a longtime Trump critic, and President Donald Trump, who has publicly demanded action.

Trump has pressured Attorney General Pam Bondi to act against Comey and other rivals, intensifying concerns that the administration is using law enforcement to punish political opponents.
