President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that the release would damage Democrats, whom he accused of having closer ties to Jeffrey Epstein
President Donald Trump has signed a law requiring the Justice Department to release all unclassified files related to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein within 30 days.
The bill passed by Congress on Tuesday required the DOJ to publish the documents in a searchable, downloadable format.
Trump had long dismissed calls to release the files as a “hoax,” but he recently shifted his stance, urging the GOP to support it. He announced the signing on Truth Social, claiming the release would damage Democrats, whom he accused of having closer ties to Epstein.
Attorney General Pam Bondi has said she will follow Trump’s direction to investigate Democratic-linked figures.
The DOJ had previously said it would not release further details, stating that Epstein had no client list and died by suicide in a New York City prison cell in 2019.
Advocacy groups for survivors of Epstein’s acts welcomed Trump’s action, calling it an important step toward accountability and truth.
