Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said on Friday that she plans to resign at the end of June, citing her husband’s cancer diagnosis.

President Donald Trump promptly praised Gabbard, but the former Democrat has reportedly had a strained run leading 18 intelligence agencies and was left out of major national security decisions, including actions tied to Venezuela and Iran.

Aaron Lukas, the principal deputy director of national intelligence, will assume the role of acting director, Trump said.
