The new deal brings songs of artists like Drake, Adele and Billie Eilish back to TikTok|Adele|Facebook

TikTok and Universal Music Group (UMG) have resolved their dispute with a new licensing agreement, bringing songs of artists, including Drake, Adele and Billie Eilish, back to the platform.

UMG removed all its artists’ music from TikTok on January 31, alleging the social media is paying “only a fraction of the rate that similarly situated major social platforms pay.”

The new deal promises benefits for UMG’s artists and songwriters and includes collaboration on monetization, promotion campaigns and AI development protection.

Despite the resolution, TikTok’s future remains uncertain after President Joe Biden signed into law a bill mandating the social media app’s Chinese parent, ByteDance, to divest its ownership within 270 days or face a nationwide ban.
