French wild card Lois Boisson stunned the crowd at Roland-Garros Monday by defeating world No. 3 Jessica Pegula 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Ranked No. 361, Boisson overcame a 358-place gap to reach the French Open quarterfinals, becoming the lowest-ranked player to do so since 2017.

The match lasted nearly three hours, drawing a packed crowd to Philippe-Chatrier Court.

Boisson’s speed and high-bouncing forehand kept Pegula off balance despite the American’s multiple break-point chances.

The athletic feat has more than tripled Boisson’s career earnings. The 22-year-old now faces rising Russian star Mirra Andreeva in the next round.
