The Winter Olympics ended on Sunday with the US taking home 12 gold medals and 33 medals in all, the country’s best-ever result at a Winter Olympics.
However, Norway retained the crown for the most golds—18. The country won 41 medals in total, a remarkable feat given the Scandinavian country’s small population of 5.7 million.
American athletes, including Mikaela Shiffrin, Alysa Liu, and Jordan Stolz, performed well.
Then came the historic moment for the men’s hockey team when it secured its first gold medal since 1980 with a 2-1 victory over archrival Canada. Jack Hughes netted the game-winning goal just 1:41 into overtime, firing a shot past Canadian goalkeeper Jordan Binnington. The victory was extra sweet since both the men’s and women’s hockey teams won gold in the Games.
