The National Basketball Association (NBA) has partnered with prediction-market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket as it seeks to strengthen oversight of sports-related trading amid a series of betting scandals.
Announced Monday, the agreements make both companies the NBA’s preferred prediction-market exchanges. They will allow the platforms to use official league data and team logos, while giving the NBA authority to approve or reject the markets they offer.
The companies will also help the league identify suspicious activities, investigate potential insider trading, and share data to protect game integrity.
The announcement comes amid major gambling investigations involving basketball figures while state regulators challenge prediction markets in court.
The NBA has faced gambling-related scrutiny since 2024; it imposed a lifetime ban on former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter after finding that he bet on basketball and shared confidential information with bettors. Prosecutors also indicted 34 defendants over alleged rigged poker games linked to organized crime and illegal sports betting.
The league says the partnerships will help it shape and monitor the bets fans can place.
The NBA has also reached a memorandum of understanding with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the federal agency that regulates prediction markets.
The league plans to expand prediction-market partnerships with DraftKings and potentially FanDuel and Fanatics.
NBA officials say working with these platforms will give it greater access to trading data and help detect suspicious activity, even as regulators and courts continue to debate how prediction markets should operate.
