The Nike Air Jordan 13 sneakers worn by basketball legend Michael Jordan in the NBA final in 1998 have become the priciest sports footwear ever auctioned after it sold for a record $2.2 million, per Sotheby’s.
Jordan wore the sneaker during his last championship season with the Chicago Bulls in 1997-98. He had the size-13 shoes on when he scored 37 points in the second half of Game 2 of the NBA Finals against Utah Jazz, known as the “Last Dance”.
After the match, the NBA megastar signed and reportedly gave the shoes to a Jazz ball boy.
With the sale, Jordan has become the most valuable athlete at auctions for sportswear memorabilia.
