In a remarkable feat, the Golden State Valkyries, founded in 2024, won their first WNBA championship on Halloween night, defeating the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in Game 7.

Gabby Williams led the Valkyries to victory with an outstanding 30-point performance and earned the Most Valuable Player award.

It was a blow to the Dream franchise, which has reached the WNBA Finals four times in its 18-year history. Atlanta star Angel Reese anchored the team throughout the seven-game stretch.

The Valkyries celebrated their historic win before a sold-out crowd of more than 18,000 fans at San Francisco’s Chase Center. The venue, nicknamed “Ballhalla,” has sold out every home game since the franchise began playing two seasons ago.

The team’s success also extends beyond the court. In May, CNBC valued the Valkyries at $1 billion, making them the first WNBA franchise to reach that milestone.
