Amazon laid off some employees from its device unit and further looks to sack around 10,000 staff, including HR and retail employees, a person familiar with the development said Wednesday.

The company executive Dave Limp wrote in a blog post, “After a deep set of reviews, we recently decided to consolidate some teams and programs.”

Some staff who worked for Alexa, a virtual assistant technology, were also removed from the firm.

Amazon plans on reducing 3% of its total workforce of 300,000 and has offered voluntary buyouts, per Reuters.
