American semiconductor company Texas Instruments (TI) announced this week a $60 billion investment to expand its manufacturing operations. The plan includes building seven new fabrication plants across Texas and Utah, creating over 60,000 jobs.

TI supplies chips to major technology and automotive companies, including Apple, Nvidia, and Ford. The firm is also collaborating with the Trump administration to produce semiconductors used in devices ranging from smartphones to data centers.

This expansion aligns with President Donald Trump’s push to onshore technology and semiconductor production in an effort to surpass China. He has already urged Apple and Samsung to manufacture more products within the United States.

TI’s move follows similar US-based expansions by companies like General Motors, Apple, and the AI venture Stargate, backed by OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle.
