Apple has agreed to a massive $250 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit after customers accused the company of overselling Siri’s new artificial intelligence abilities before they were ready.
The suit, filed in federal court in California, accuses Apple of advertising “Enhanced Siri” capabilities that were not available when some customers bought their devices.
Buyers argued they upgraded their phones expecting a smarter Siri, only to discover the features would arrive much later.
Who can receive payment?
The proposed settlement covers people in the US who purchased an iPhone 16 model, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025.
Court documents estimate that nearly 37 million iPhone owners may qualify.
Eligible customers are expected to receive at least $25 per device. Depending on the number of claims filed, payments could rise to a maximum of $95 per device. They will receive claim notices by email or mail if a judge approves the deal.
Claim instructions and a settlement website are expected to launch in the coming weeks.
The tech giant is still struggling in the artificial intelligence race and has faced growing pressure from rivals such as Google and Samsung Electronics, which have rolled out AI tools more quickly.
The company added that it settled the case to stay focused on innovation and pointed to features like Visual Intelligence and Live Translation, while continuing work on its upgraded Siri assistant.
