After a long wait, Apple unveiled its mixed reality headset, Vision Pro, yesterday at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

The tech giant claims the AR/VR headset will be the “most advanced personal electronics device ever.”

The $3,499 headset that will not come out before 2024 runs on the brand-new spatial computing platform visionOS.

Shares of Apple Inc. were the highest in its 43-year history early Monday, reaching $184.95, anticipating the VR headset debut. The previous record was $182.94, achieved last January.

But
Stocks fell into the red momentarily yesterday when the Vision Pro’s price was announced. It costs 20% higher than the predicted $3,000 and comes when VR headset sales are declining.

Experts also believe the announcement is a bit late, considering Meta’s Quest VR headset dominates 80% of global sales. The latest Quest 3 VR headset, unveiled Thursday, costs $499.

As of March, Meta has sold nearly 20 million Quest headsets.

Even Microsoft’s HoloLens headset, which retails at $3,500 has sold around 300,000 since 2016.

What does Vision Pro do?
According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, it is “the first product you look through, not at.”

Users can access a virtual screen and perform all Mac or iPad tasks via the headset. They will be able to navigate using their eyes, voice and hands.

The Vision Pro headset comes with 4K displays for each eye, cameras, sensors, a 3D photography and a screen feature called EyeSight (which makes users' eyes visible through the display).

What else?
Disney CEO Bob Iger made a guest appearance at the WWDC this year, hinting at a partnership with Apple’s VR technology to provide content like an immersive National Geographic app, 3D basketball court, and more. Iger noted that Disney+ will be available from the first day of Vision Pro.

Apart from Vision Pro
Apple also introduced a new 15-inch MacBook Air, FaceTime for Apple TV, updates to Mac Studio, Mac Pro, and new operating systems for iPad, iPhone, Mac and Apple watch.
