The internet is not like the pre-fed data set ChatGPT relied upon before and Open AI says it has ‘implemented several safeguards’ to reduce misinformation in ChatGPT’s responses|via chatgpt.com

OpenAI launched several plugins yesterday that can help ChatGPT to access the web, book travels on Kayak and Expedia, and even order groceries on Instakart.

Currently available only to a select few, the ChatGPT can also help reserve a table at a restaurant through OpenTable.

There’s more
Earlier, ChatGPT’s knowledge was limited to dates, events and people before around September 2021, which was why the AI bot sometimes gave wrong answers or didn’t have detailed knowledge related to recent occurrences.

OpenAI’s new plugins also allow the chatbot to access the web.

Risky business
Just like any AI, ChatGPT is incentivised to please people. So with access to the web, the chatbot could be biased and pick only certain data it thinks users will agree to.

The internet is not like the pre-fed data set ChatGPT relied upon before.

Open AI admits this is a problem and that it has “implemented several safeguards” to reduce misinformation in ChatGPT’s responses. But it also openly states that the AI tool could aid in “increasing the capabilities of bad actors who would defraud, mislead or abuse others.”

The new plugins are available to only select ChatGPT users and developers.
