Days of heavy rain in Indiana caused a major flood crisis, leaving at least seven people dead, including a four-year-old boy.

The White River rose to nearly 25 feet over the weekend, surpassing a flood record set in 1913. Some communities recorded more than 11 inches of rain in two days.

The disaster affected homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure. Noblesville reported damage to more than 550 residential units, while Indianapolis emergency crews conducted 56 water rescues.

Power outages also disrupted daily life, with nearly 130,000 customers still without electricity Sunday, down from roughly 300,000.

More than 70 National Guard members joined recovery operations after the governor declared a statewide emergency.

Although water levels began falling Sunday, additional rainfall could create new hazards. The storm system also moved toward West Virginia, where forecasters issued flash-flood warnings.
