Airbus broke its own record for the most number of airplane orders, securing 2,319 gross orders and 2,094 net orders in 2023. The number is more than double the previous year and surpasses its 2014 record of 1,796.

The surge in orders includes major deals, such as a 500-aircraft order from IndiGo and a 470-jet order from Air India.

The European flight maker rivals American corp Boeing and has maintained its position as the top aircraft manufacturer for half a decade.

But, Airbus was able to only deliver 735 planes in 2023 and has an order backlog of 8,598. CEO Guillaume Faury expressed confidence in achieving a target of assembling 75 A320neo family jets per month by 2026.

In contrast, Boeing—under massive scrutiny after the Alaska Airline door-plug blowout incident and still recovering from some past issues—delivered 528 aircraft in 2023 and booked 1,314 net new orders after cancellations.
