A Las Vegas jury on Monday found former gang leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of murder with a deadly weapon for allegedly orchestrating Tupac Shakur’s killing three decades ago.
The hip-hop legend died at the peak of his career at 25, having sold over 75 million records globally. He is known for hits like “Dear Mama, Hit ‘Em Up,” and the epic album All Eyez On Me.
The verdict marks the first conviction in the decades-old case, which had gone cold.
Prosecutors argued that Davis, 63, a former South Side Compton Crips leader, ordered the hit.
The case had a revival when, in interviews and a 2019 memoir, Davis described his involvement, saying he ordered the killing and obtained the gun as retaliation against the Bloods, a rival gang linked to Shakur.
Despite this, Davis has maintained his innocence, claiming he had fabricated the story for money. He said he plans to appeal. He could face life in prison without parole.
