Unsealed court documents reveal that law enforcement officials thwarted a planned attack on President Donald Trump’s UFC cage fighting event at the White House last weekend.
The UFC event, which also celebrated Trump’s 80th birthday, had over 4,000 attendees.
Federal officials arrested five people and confiscated firearms on June 10, just 4 days before the South Lawn event.
Investigators reviewed encrypted text messages involving roughly 20 participants who utilized TikTok and Signal to plot the attack. They also received a tip-off from the mother of a 19-year-old Ohio suspect regarding his firearms purchases.
The messages convey that the people were united by anti-government sentiment, antisemitic grievances, and conspiracy theories about Jeffrey Epstein. The group discussed using explosives-laden drones and shooting panicked crowds.
Vice President JD Vance noted the plot “didn’t even get close to the point of execution.”
