Warner Bros.’ (WB) new Superman movie is off to a flying start, earning $122 million at the domestic box office and $95 million globally over the weekend.
The movie stars David Corenswet as the superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
It also earned $21 million in preview screenings, including $2.8 million from early Amazon Prime member showings.
With a $225 million budget, the Man of Steel needs to keep momentum at the box office to be profitable. It has earned $217 million worldwide in ticket sales so far, per WB.
It is the second-best opening for a Superman film, behind Zack Snyder’s 2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which made $166 million.
It is the first big swing from director James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe.
