Taylor Swift’s The Official Release Party of a Show Girl ruled the weekend’s box office, earning $33 million, according to Comscore. The movie is part of Swift’s 12th album release, and offers behind-the-scenes footage.
Its strong ticket sales are remarkable for a release announced just two weeks ago. The movie played in all 540 AMC theaters across the US, as well as in Mexico, Canada, and Europe.
The strong reception extends Swift’s winning streak at the box office following her 2023 The Eras Tour concert film, which opened to $96 million.
Another debut over the weekend was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s The Smashing Machine, which brought in just $6 million despite critical praise and a strong festival reception.
Meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio’s thriller, One Battle After Another, continues its success, raking in $11.1 million, and having reached $107 million globally.
