Tens of thousands of people flooded the streets of Israel to protest against the government over the weekend and called for the removal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The protestors in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and other cities joined the families of hostages and demanded the release of those still held captive in Gaza. They blamed Netanyahu for political and security failures, including strained relations with the US and a looming corruption trial.

They further accused Netanyahu of prioritizing personal interests over national welfare and hindering negotiations.

Criticism against Netanyahu has intensified both domestically and internationally over civilian casualties in Gaza and his handling of the hostage situation. Pope Francis joined calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid access to Gaza. Despite median efforts, a viable agreement remains elusive.

Meanwhile, the US and Israel will hold a virtual meeting to discuss alternatives to an Israeli invasion of Rafah, Gaza. The meeting was initially delayed due to tension between President Joe Biden and Netanyahu over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
