Israel called off a delegation of two of its top aides to Washington after the UN Security Council passed a resolution urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for Ramadan. The move comes after the US decided to abstain from the vote.

The resolution, backed by 14 nations, also urges hostage release, marking the first successful resolution after four failed attempts.

The canceled visit was intended for discussion on Israel’s planned military operation into the southern city of Rafa, for which President Joe Biden had issued warnings that Israel would be crossing a “red line.”
